Powell and Scaramanga Crowned Britcar Endurance Champions

Motus One Racing McLaren scores four outright Endurance & eight class victories

Will Powell (pictured above right) and Dave Scaramanga swept the Moorgate Motorsport Finance McLaren 650S GT3 to its fourth overall and class victory in the final round of the Britcar Endurance Championship at Donington Park (23 Oct) – a win that earns the duo the outright championship title.

Scaramanga started the Motus One Racing McLaren from the third row of the grid, first in class and the first of the non-Praga cars. Dave did well to survive a chaotic opening lap which saw multiple incidents followed by a Safety Car period to clear away the damaged cars. He resumed ninth, now third in class, and handed over to Powell with 14mins gone in the 50mins race – 10th overall and 24secs behind the leader.

Only a few minutes into Powell’s stint, another Safety Car occurred, Will placed 14th, third in class, when racing resumed with 24mins remaining – the McLaren almost immediately snatching second in class. With 20mins to run, the flying Powell was sixth overall, 15secs behind the class leader who benefitted from making the compulsory pit-stop under Safety Car conditions.

Incredibly, with seven minutes remaining, Powell swept the McLaren into the class lead (fourth overall), ultimately taking the chequered flag third overall – just two seconds off second place. However, officials gave the McLaren a 30secs penalty for a Safety Car infringement, dropping them to second in class (sixth overall).

In Race 2, Scaramanga started fifth, handing over to Powell 16mins into the race. Will lay 11th, first in class, with 28mins to run and with all of the pit-stops completed – the McLaren came home fifth overall, winning its class by over a lap.

Will Powell, Team Principal
“Dave drove a solid stint, avoided the chaos at the start, and kept us in the race which was an achievement in itself given the number of competitors with damage.

“I had to push really, really hard in my stint to make up positions and claim our fourth consecutive overall Endurance championship race win, only to receive a penalty.

“However, the second race went much more smoothly and I’m delighted we were ultimately able to secure the outright Britcar Endurance Championship after a season of hard work.”
